Nguyen Minh Tri (Tonee) is a multimedia artist based in Ho Chi Minh City, whose practice centers on the physical transformation of raw materials. His work spans across make-up, ceramics, metal, yarn, and more. He attempts to materialize his mental growth or lack thereof by materializing it in physical objects. His work focuses heavily on tactile exploration, grounding viewers in the immediate physical presence of the object before inviting them into deeper narrative spaces.
By anchoring his process in these tangible materials, Tonee aims to bridge the gap between concrete forms and abstract concepts. He uses the altered textures of his sculptures to explore themes of bodily fragmentation cultural identity.
